FAWE Uganda Engages EQUSaT Administration In Workshop on Extended Orientation Model for Higher Education Access Program

Days ago, FAWE Uganda held a capacity-building workshop aimed at strengthening support systems for students transitioning from secondary school to higher institutions of learning. The session, led by Ms. Rebecca N. Byamukama, and delivered by Assoc. Prof Dennis Zami Atibuni focused on the Extended Orientation Model under the Higher Education Access Program.

During the workshop, Ms. Byamukama and her team unveiled 13 carefully developed modules designed to help first-year students adapt to the academic, social, and emotional demands of university life. The modules address key areas such as academic preparedness, personal development, mental health, financial literacy, mentorship, and campus safety.

According to FAWE Uganda, the initiative seeks to bridge the adjustment gap faced by many new entrants who come from the highly regulated secondary school environment and suddenly find themselves in a more independent and demanding university setting. The organization emphasized that proper orientation plays a crucial role in improving retention, performance, and overall student well-being.

Participants at the workshop included university administrators, educators, and student support officers, who expressed optimism about integrating the modules into their institutional induction programs. They noted that the extended orientation approach will equip learners with essential life skills and foster a smoother transition into higher education.
