EQUSaT Unveils SDGs Wall to Amplify Sustainability Agenda
Equator University of Science and Technology (EQUSaT) has taken a bold step in promoting global sustainability by unveiling its highly anticipated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Wall at the main campus in Kasijjagirwa, Masaka City.
The official launch, which took place earlier this month, was presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo, who lauded the university’s SDGs team for their commitment to integrating sustainability into institutional culture.
“Now that we have established visible SDG installations across the campus, including this Wall and other branded points, we are moving fully into the implementation phase,” Prof. Mpezamihigo noted. “We are optimistic that by the end of this year, EQUSaT will meet the benchmarks to be considered for the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.”
The SDGs Wall will serve as an educational and motivational installation aimed at reminding students, staff, and visitors of the global goals and their relevance to higher education. In addition to the Wall, other areas around the campus have been creatively branded with SDG themes, including the staircase from the ground level of the EQUSaT building and the wall facing the university’s main hall.
EQUSaT’s SDGs Ambassador, Ms. Nakkazzi Natasha, expressed her excitement about the milestone, emphasizing that the unveiling marks the beginning of more focused efforts toward sustainability education.
“This is just the beginning,” she said. “We are planning a series of SDG-related training sessions to sensitize students and the broader community on sustainability, innovation, and responsible living.”
In collaboration with The University of Lahore in Pakistan, the initiative is part of a broader strategy to align academic operations with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda, reinforcing its role as a progressive and responsible institution in Uganda’s higher education sector.
