Masaka, July 21, 2024 — Students of Equator University of Science and Technology (EQUSaT) embarked on an educational tour to the Equator Line, the geographical landmark from which the university derives its name. The visit was both academic and recreational, aimed at deepening students’ appreciation of geography and their institution’s identity.
During the visit, students received detailed geographical information about Uganda and the Equator Line, including how life and natural forces are influenced by its position. They also conducted exciting hands-on experiments at the site. Among them was the Coriolis Effect Water Drain Experiment, which demonstrated how the Earth’s rotation affects water flow, and the Balance of an Object Experiment, which illustrated gravitational equilibrium at the Equator.
Several other experiments followed, sparking curiosity and reinforcing classroom learning with practical demonstrations. The session concluded with a lively photo moment, capturing memories that will remind students of their unique experience for years to come.
The visit not only refreshed students’ minds but also strengthened their pride in being part of a university whose name is tied to such a globally significant landmark.
Contribution to SDGs
The activity advanced SDG 4 (Quality Education) through experiential learning, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by promoting scientific curiosity, and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by enhancing cultural and geographical awareness. It also fostered SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through shared learning experiences.
