Mr. and Miss EQUSaT 2024 Lead Charity Drive in Kigamba Village

Masaka, September 7, 2024 — The reigning Mr. and Miss EQUSaT, Awopetu David and Haneefah Ali, spearheaded a community outreach initiative by mobilizing food, clothing, and household items from students and well-wishers of Equator University of Science and Technology (EQUSaT). The donations were handed over to residents of Kigamba village, where the university campus is located.

The charity drive was aimed at extending a helping hand to the community while fostering togetherness between the university and its neighbors. The initiative was warmly received, with villagers expressing gratitude for the support and unity demonstrated by the students.

In appreciation, the Kigamba community requested a friendly football match with EQUSaT students—an engagement that has since strengthened the bond between the university and the local residents.

Contribution to SDGs

The initiative supported SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by addressing immediate community needs, SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) through improved welfare, and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by fostering social cohesion. It also promoted SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by enhancing collaboration between EQUSaT and its host community.
