FAWE Extended Orientation Equips Students with Entrepreneurship and Life Skills
Students participating in the FAWE Extended Orientation Programme have been encouraged to embrace entrepreneurship, continuous learning and strategic thinking as essential skills for navigating university life and preparing for the world of work.
Speaking during the programme, Prof. Charles Tushabomwe Kazooba challenged students to develop an entrepreneurial mindset by starting small, thinking beyond the present and making informed decisions about their future.
“Start small,” Prof. Kazooba advised, while emphasising that setbacks should not discourage students from pursuing their goals. He reminded them that failure is not final, but can be part of the learning and growth process.
He further encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs to invest wisely, avoid making decisions out of excitement, visualise success and expand strategically. According to his message, sustainable growth requires patience, discipline and a willingness to keep learning.
Prof. Kazooba also urged students to develop a passion for learning and to think about how they can distinguish themselves in an increasingly competitive environment.
“Imagine yourself in a large crowd and always strive to stand out,” was among the messages shared with the students, encouraging them to identify their unique strengths, build their capabilities and create meaningful opportunities.
The session reflected the broader purpose of the FAWE Extended Orientation Programme—to equip students with practical knowledge and skills that complement academic learning and support their personal, professional and entrepreneurial development.
The programme also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting lifelong learning and skills development; SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, through entrepreneurship and employability; and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, through innovation and enterprise.
For the students, the message was both practical and forward-looking: start where you are, learn continuously, invest wisely, grow deliberately and build the confidence to stand out.
