EQUSaT to Host Launch of East Africa’s First Modular Bamboo Orphanage
Equator University of Science and Technology (EQUSaT) is tipped to host the highly anticipated launch of the Nyumba Mpya – Modular Bamboo Orphanage Project, the first of its kind in East Africa.
The event, scheduled for Friday, July 25, 2025, starting at 3:00 PM, will take place at EQUSaT's campus along Kasijjagira Road-Masaka City.
Nyumba Mpya, meaning “New Home” in Swahili, is a pioneering international initiative focused on sustainable, modular bamboo construction designed specifically to support orphaned children and vulnerable communities. The project is a collaboration between partners from Uganda, Poland, Great Britain, and Pakistan, marking a significant milestone in sustainable architecture and cross-border cooperation.
“We are building more than just structures, we are laying the foundation for a new, sustainable approach to care and community,” one of the organisers stated.
Attendees are expected to witness the unveiling of the prototype bamboo structure, offering a glimpse into an innovative vision for eco-friendly, affordable, and adaptable orphanage housing. The launch will also feature:
