Masaka, July 13, 2024 — Equator University of Science and Technology (EQUSaT) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sudan International University (SIU), aimed at supporting students whose education was disrupted by the ongoing civil war in Sudan.
The agreement was signed by EQUSaT Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo, and SIU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bakri Osman Saeed, in a move that not only provided an immediate academic lifeline for affected students but also opened the door for deeper institutional collaborations.
As a result of the MoU, Sudanese lecturers and students have since joined EQUSaT, enriching the university community with diverse perspectives and experiences. The partnership also laid the foundation for future cooperation in academic exchange, joint research, and regional development initiatives.
Contribution to SDGs
The MoU contributed to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by ensuring access to learning opportunities for conflict-affected students, SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by promoting educational resilience in times of crisis, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening international collaboration in higher education.
