Equator University of Science and Technology (EQUSaT) successfully flagged off its pioneer Dental Surgery students to Lahore, Pakistan for their elective training. The initiative which was given a full blessing and support by the Chairman Board of Trustees, and operationalized by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo, was launched earlier this year as part of EQUSaT’s commitment to providing global exposure and practical learning experiences unique only to EQUSaT students.
Working closely with The University of Lahore, EQUSaT facilitated the acquisition of student visas and completed all necessary travel arrangements and briefed students some of whom had never traveled abroad before. The students officially departed Uganda on 26th July 2025, marking the beginning of an enriching academic journey.
Upon arrival, the team, led by Dr. Emmanuel Tugaineyo, Head of the Department of Dental Surgery at EQUSaT, was received in warmth and respect from their peers and administrators at The University of Lahore.
The students, Twelve in number, are currently undertaking their electives at University of Lahore.
Speaking to The EQUSaT Post, Prof. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo expressed confidence that the international exposure would enhance the students’ clinical competencies and deepen their understanding of global standards in dental healthcare.
"Our goal was to expose them to international academic environments and equip them with the skills required for the global job market and medical practice. We believe that by the time they return, they will have gained substantial clinical experience that will benefit them both nationally and internationally," he said.
Besides academics, the students are also taking time to explore the vibrant and historic city of Lahore. They have been touring cultural landmarks and experiencing life in a new environment-an opportunity that is not only broadening their worldviews but also offering them a refreshing break from their rigorous academic routines.
Prof. Mpezamihigo also emphasized that EQUSaT’s collaboration with The University of Lahore is aligned with the university’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
