EQUSaT Hosts Youth Empowerment Conference in Partnership with HHRD

Masaka, June 13, 2024 — Equator University of Science and Technology (EQUSaT) held a Youth Empowerment Program aimed at equipping young people with practical skills for the future. The one-day conference focused on financial literacy, social connectivity, and mental health, all designed to prepare youth for the demands of modern society.

The event brought together experts from finance, counselling, mental health, and other fields who guided participants through interactive sessions. It was organized in collaboration with Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) and attracted students, staff, and community members.

The conference was graced by EQUSaT Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo, alongside Mr. Haruna Kibirige from HHRD and other distinguished guests. In addition to empowering participants, the program led to the formation of both student and staff Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOS), strengthening financial independence within the university community.

Contribution to SDGs

The Youth Empowerment Program directly advanced several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By promoting financial literacy and establishing SACCOS, the initiative aligned with SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). Discussions on mental health and counselling supported SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), while the emphasis on social connectivity fostered inclusivity and partnerships consistent with SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
