On June 30th, 2025, Equator University of Science and Technology (EQUSaT) proudly hosted the 4th Youth Empowerment Program in partnership with Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD). The inspiring and transformative event was held under the theme "IGNITE THE FUTURE: BUILDING SKILLS, NETWORKS AND PURPOSE,"drawing together over 145 passionate participants from various faculties within EQUSaT and beyond.

The program officially kicked off at 10:00 AM, with the ever-energetic MC Namanya Bruce Morgan warmly welcoming guests and setting a vibrant tone for the day. An opening prayer was led by Value, a dedicated MBChB Year 1 student, grounding the event in purpose and unity.

The Vice Chancellor of EQUSaT, Professor Mouhamad Mpezamihigo, gave heartfelt opening remarks, emphasizing the value of practical skills in today’s world. He urged students to embrace entrepreneurship, start small businesses, and never undermine any skill, no matter how simple it may seem. He further encouraged participants to cultivate a culture of saving and the formation of SACCOs as a strategy for economic empowerment.

The first speaker, Mr. Kalanzi Umar, delivered a captivating talk titled “Faith, Values, and Identity.” His powerful message reminded attendees of the beauty of diversity, calling on youth to rise above any ideologies that promote supremacy. He highlighted that faith, values, and identity are deeply connected and that knowing oneself paves the way for mutual respect and genuine human connection. He left the audience with a resonating quote:
“Be a tree with deep roots and spread the branches”

Participants were then treated to a mouthwatering breakfast, creating a perfect transition into the next session.

The second speaker, Hajji Buddu, a well-known and successful entrepreneur, took the stage to share insights on “Sustainability in Business.”He emphasized the importance of setting clear goals, monitoring progress, and ensuring economic viability. According to him, this approach not only fosters customer loyalty but also unlocks access to new markets and long-term opportunities.

Next was a highly engaging session led by Mr. Kiganda Hussein, who spoke on “Digital Skills for the Future Job Market.” His interactive approach stood out, as he divided the participants into five creative teams: Digital Experts, Digital Moguls, Digital Dons, Digital Gurus, and Digital Visionaries. Each group actively participated in a short exercise before diving deep into discussions on the importance of digital fluency and artificial intelligence. Mr. Kiganda encouraged participants to embrace technology and understand how AI can be applied across various sectors.

The final session featured the inspiring Mrs. Olive Tusiime, who delivered a powerful talk on “Breaking Barriers: Gender Equality and Inclusiveness.”She passionately advocated for equal rights, opportunities, and fair treatment for all regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability, or sexual orientation. Her message was clear: inclusivity creates stronger communities and systems where every individual is valued and empowered to thrive.

Following the speaker sessions, Mr. Haruna Kibirige, the Program Officer, led a reflective wrap-up session where participants shared their key takeaways and personal experiences.

The program ended on a high note with closing remarks from Prof. Mpezamihigo, who expressed deep gratitude to all the speakers for their impactful messages and to the attendees for their active participation. He encouraged continued involvement in such programs for personal and professional growth.

To crown the day, a delicious lunch was served, and certificates of participation were issued. Participants also received transport refunds, a thoughtful gesture by the organizers.

Indeed, the 4th Youth Empowerment Program was not just an event — it was a movement of inspiration, learning, and purpose. A day that reminded every participant of their potential to build a better future, together.
